In Search of a Way of Life
A nutritionist travels across the Mediterranean to explore the food, history, science, agriculture, and people behind one of the world's most celebrated dietary traditions.
is one of the most celebrated dietary patterns in the world.
But a diet is more than what appears on a plate.
I'm leaving the nutrition textbook behind and traveling across the Mediterranean to meet the people, experience the traditions, and explore the history and science behind the way we came to understand this diet—and what it might still have to teach us.
Registered Dietitian Nutritionist · MS, Nutrition, NYU
I'm a nutritionist, traveler, and lifelong student of food and culture. After years of studying and practicing nutrition—and several years living and traveling abroad—I became increasingly curious about the distance between how we talk about the Mediterranean diet and how people across the Mediterranean actually live and eat.
With family roots in southern Italy, this project brings together the things I'm most drawn to: food, travel, science, photography, history, and people. It's both an investigation into a dietary tradition I've studied for years and an opportunity to leave the textbook behind and learn from the people and places that shaped it.
Interested in the project?
I'm currently developing the documentary and looking to connect with farmers, fishermen, cooks, families, historians, researchers, and others whose lives and work can help me better understand the Mediterranean.
If you have a story to share—or know someone I should meet—I'd love to hear from you.
